5ghclassThe CCIS 5th Class Power Engineering “Building Operator” program prepares students to take the Provincial 5th Class Power Engineering exam or the equivalent low-pressure heating plant certificate exam.

The Building Operator – 5th Class Power Engineering Training Program is open to immigrants and new Canadians with aptitude in:

Math, Physics, Chemistry, Thermodynamics and Mechanics

and/or have technical and mechanical experience and wish to build a career as a Building Operator.

Eligibility for Training

  • Landed immigrant / New Canadian residing in Canada
  • Unable to find employment or marginally employed due to limited occupational language skills, lack of knowledge of Canadian employment practices and lack of Canadian experience
  • Minimum: Grade 12 equivalent or High School Diploma
  • Able to pass competency exam in math, physics, chemistry, thermodynamics, and mechanics
  • Eligible for Employment Insurance (EI), Income Support, unemployed Albertan and/or as assessed by Alberta Human Services (AHS)
  • Be able to pass Minimum Canadian English language benchmark of 7
  • Be physically fit and capable of working in the industry
  • Mechanically/ technically inclined
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Good communication and relationship skills
  • Ready, willing and able to complete the training program
  • Class 5-Full driver’s license
  • Be willing to relocate and/or work shifts
