The Foundational Carpentry Pre-Apprenticeship training program has been designed for individuals to train and learn about the trade of carpentry.
The approach to the program provides a strong foundational component and offers pre-apprenticeship training with the aim of providing essential and fundamental trades skills to be a carpenter helper or apprentice, which will in turn allow you to pursue employment.
The goal of this apprenticeship training is to equip you with the appropriate skills and certification to become trained in the carpentry trade, and to pave the way for further training.

- Academic Upgrading which includes:
- English and Communication Skills
- Math and Science Fundamentals
- Pre-Apprentice Carpentry Theory
- Applied Skills Development Training/ SAIT Pre-Apprenticeship Hands-On Training:
- Demonstrate an understanding of worksite safety practices on residential and commercial job sites.
- Demonstrate awareness of safe work practices, and explain their personal safety responsibilities in keeping workplaces safe.
- Identify common tools used in carpentry trades and describe their applications.
- Demonstrate safe use of basic hand and power tools used in the carpentry trade.
- Extract relevant information from basic drawings and designs.
- Interpret and apply the information in basic drawings to complete a project.
- Demonstrate woodworking skills including measuring, cutting, fastening, and finishing.
- Understand and explain the design and building processes for floor, wall, and roof framing.
- Demonstrate awareness of different building materials and their applications.
- Describe considerations for working with different types of wood and materials.
- Plan, prepare, and complete woodworking projects.
- Demonstrate fundamental applied woodwork skills through projects such as:
- Residential floor, roof, and wall frame.
- Internal drywall, decorating, and finishing.
- External siding and shingling.
